The Adolescent Girl Journey: Her Body. Her Power.

An interactive session, organized by Plan International along with FrontLine Aids and SheDecides, that will amplify and promote young people’s voices, and share these organizations’ experiences in addressing the barriers adolescent girls face in realizing their right to sexual and reproductive health, highlighting programs expressing/built on young people’s voices.

Social Enterprise Pitch: Day Two

A live competition featuring outstanding social entrepreneurs, held over the course of two days. Each contestant will have 10 minutes to convince a panel of experts that their product or idea has potential to transform the lives of girls and women. Three winners will receive a cash prize that can be used to scale up their mission-driven business.

India is home to the largest number of skilled handloom weavers and handicraft artisans in the world. While global demand for handicrafts and textiles is growing, the majority of these artisans live below the poverty line. Hear how LoomKatha plans to help bolster traditional supply chains and connect these rural artisans to the global market.

Unemployment is high in rural communities in Kenya, particularly among women – which affects the health and welfare of entire families. Eggpreneur provides flexible yet stable income-generating opportunities to rural mothers with young children through small backyard poultry production.

Water scarcity and youth unemployment are two significant issues facing Rwanda. Water Access Rwanda is tackling both issues by employing young people to help revolutionize the country’s water sector with decentralized infrastructure that offers reliable, safe water at a fraction of the usual cost.

How She Leads: Past, Present, and Future

Nutrition International will bring together a lifelong activist and upcoming women leaders, to will explore the barriers to change, what it takes to overcome them and how we build on the past to shape the future. In an opening address, Dr. Edna Adan Ismail (former foreign minister of the autonomous Somaliland region in northwest Somalia and Founder and Director of the Edna Adan Maternity Hospital and University) will share what she has learned over her lifetime advocating on behalf of women, and women’s health and nutrition. Vivian Onano (social entrepreneur and humanitarian) will then moderate a panel of young leaders for nutrition, to discuss how we mobilize the youth of today to shape the world they want to live in, a world where every girl – no matter where she is – can thrive in all aspects of life.

PANEL: Female Filmmakers: Above the Line

Although women account for 51% of movie-goers, of the top 100 grossing films of 2018, only 6% had women directors and only 15% had women screenwriters. Hear from female filmmakers who have overcome gender barriers in the film industry and gone on to create impactful work on gender equity.

State of the World’s Fathers 2019: Accelerating Global Progress on Men’s Caregiving
